...not by holding the refs accountable or anything, but by censoring the replays so people in the stands can't see how bad it is.

2010 World Cup: FIFA to censor in-stadium replays (ESPN.com)

That's a good way to hook potential new fans in a year where the discussion is high.  Speaking as somebody who doesn't watch regularly or pay attention, I've seen two goals disallowed for the American team (one on a call that nobody understands because FIFA won't even discuss what the call on the field WAS), another goal by the English team that wasn't counted and now an Argentinian goal that should have been disallowed but wasn't.

No, there's no problem with the officiating...

Officials miss call on Lampard goal (ESPN.com)

The primary story, I already hit on in my previous post (the English goal that wasn't counted against Germany) but this story also has a nice little laundry list of other blown calls from this year's tournament.

World Cup: Referees with botched calls removed from World Cup list (ESPN.com)

Apparently FIFA is starting to feel the heat.  Good, because as a casual observer, the officiating this year has been horrendous.  I understand the human element and all of that and don't expect perfection but for this many calls affecting this many teams and the outcomes of this many games is a different matter entirely.  FIFA doesn't help themselves with their policy of not discussing calls, either.  Even if they were to avoid throwing referees under the bus when a bad call is made, there hasn't been an explanation of what the call is the US/Slovenia match even WAS.
