What's the deal with Kerry Wood? He was rehabbing and then I didn't hear anything at all for like a week. I guess we can call that signing another bust for Mark Shapiro. Why do people think he's good?

That and his arm fell off.

As for his current status, he is scheduled to go on a rehab stint with Double A Akron this week. How long that will be is anyone's guess. The last I had heard was that he threw some bullpen sessions and had stiffness the following day, so we'll see. Hopefully he'll come back strong and we can trade him as soon as he starts to pay some dividends...maybe for another friggin' aging DH or mediocre, minor league middle reliever.

As a quick follow up, Wood pitched in Akron on Monday and got shelled: 2/3 of an inning, 6 runs on four hits and two walks.

This weekend, Wood finally got to pitch for the Indians and he got roughed up again: 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 2/3 of an inning.  He pitched again the following day, retiring the only batter he faced.  Manager Manny Acta says he may return to the closer's role as soon as this week.

Not surprising to see him have problems his first time out.  You can bet that there's pressure from on high to get him closing games again - either to try and shore up the bullpen or (more likely) to increase his trade value.
