Waiting For Next Year has a good article on the state of the Cavs roster: Taking Inventory of the New Cavaliers Reveals a ‘Big’ Problem (WaitingForNextYear.com)

We also touched on this over the last show or two.  Everyone seems to agree that Mo Williams is going to be served a lot better in Byron Scott's offense that he was when he was stuck behind LeBron.  I do disagree with their assessment of the center situation.  Yes, the Cavaliers need a center, but I don't think it's that pressing.  Anderson Varejao and JJ Hickson are both undersized for the position, as is Leon Powe, but they can certainly split time there.  With three guys splitting the time, that's less of an issue.  If nothing else they can just burn through fouls underneath and be "nuisance centers".  That will limit the team's ability to get deep into the postseason, but they aren't going to be winning it all this year anyhow.  The team needs to get a point guard and move Williams to the 2 and then look for a center next year in the draft or free agency.

The trade exemption is the only worthwhile thing the Cavs got and I don't know who they're going to use it on.  They'll definitely be packaging Delonte in with it.

The draft picks are going to suck.  Miami won't be having high draft picks anytime soon and the Cavs can't start using them for two years.  The first 2nd round pick is in 2012 and the Cavs' choice of first round picks won't kick in until at least 2013.  Plus that goofy provision where they can swap first round picks with the Heat?  What's that about?  When are the Cavs really going to have a lower first round pick than the Heat?

Cavs sign Lowry to offer sheet (ESPN.com)

The Cavs have made an offer to restricted free agent Kyle Lowry, although early indications are that the Houston Rockets will match the offer.  Lowry isn't a big name, sexy signing but does address the backcourt need that has plagued the Cavs for years.  He's a mediocre scorer, but he compliments Mo Williams well with his great defense.  Signing Lowry would make trading Mo Williams a worthwhile pursuit because the team would finally have a starting point guard, but teams aren't exactly lining up to take on Williams' contract.

Yea, all that junk puts them into a better trade position, which is all they have for this year to work with.  Larry, you're too optimistic.  It's one thing to say that the Heat won't win a championship, but the Cavs are just not gonna do well.  The estimate right now is 35 games won this season.  Everyone is talking playoffs, but I don't think it's realistic, not with this team.

That can change, they could put the right trades in and make some deals, but looking at the talent we have and the past years performance vs the opposition, I don't see how we do well.  You're looking at best case scenarios.  Some of these guys will surely get injured and we'll now start having back-ups for the back-ups, and such.  And that means we'll have a terrible year.

Better to be realistic and treat this like a rebuilding year, than to go around saying we're playoff material.  Nobody really believes that.
