The franchise tag IS one of the ideas that has been floated as the NBA heads into talks with the players union.  There's also talk of capping it so that teams could only have two max contracts, but that's way too easy to get around.  I like the franchise tag, but they'll have to give up a lot if they think they're going to get the players union to agree to it.  The NFL can do it because their players union blows - they don't even have guaranteed contracts.

As for all of the endorsements for the lesser players that are going to be lining up to join the new Legion of Doom, go ask Horace Grant how many endorsements his rings with the Bulls and Lakers got him.

Ilgauskas thanks Cavs fans for support (Cleveland.com)

On the other hand, Z has gone about this the right way.  With LeBron gone, this team isn't really a contender and Z wants to get a ring in the last few years of his career - he admitted as much in a full page ad that he took out in the Plain Dealer, thanking the fans and letting everybody know that Cleveland will always be home.  He didn't make a spectacle of kicking the city, the team or the fans in the teeth and I haven't heard a single person say a single word against him - as they shouldn't.

Thanks for the memories Z, I only wish that I could wish you good luck - but I can't.  Maybe if you can get yourself traded to the Lakers or something...
